Adult Social Care needs radical change says adass
Published on

Delegates at the NCAS Conference were told that Adult Social Care services are facing a 'radical transformation' as they begin to confront the challenges posed by severely reduced budgets. adass President Richard Jones said Directors of Adult Social Services must "face up to the challenges of how we move forward in a context of increasing demand, reducing resources and major change'.

CM2000 were at the event which took place in Manchester in early November and found delegates to be very receptive to the idea of saving money through implementing end- to-end care monitoring, scheduling and financial management.

Mark Thomas, Commercial Director said "There was a lot of interest in the case studies we were showcasing. Devon County Council saved £1 million in their first year of implementing our award winning system. That figure is difficult to ignore when you are being forced to save money but don't want to compromise service delivery."

"We recognise the difficult job Directors of Social Services have to do and we're keen to show how the Councils we already work with have made cashable savings and efficiency gains."

Following the conference the adass are challenging the Government to justify the notion that Councils have no excuse to cut adult care services over the coming years - despite the budget cuts.  There appears to be a huge difference in the estimated increase required to cope with demographic pressures - with the Government suggesting 1.9% a year from 2011-15 and adass putting the figure at 4%.
